Polaris PowerLED power management patent found invalid

On February 2, 2026, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate cancelling challenged claims 18-21 of U.S. Patent 8,181,042, owned by Polaris PowerLED Technologies, LLC, an NPE. The ‘042 patent generally relates to power management in integrated circuits. It was the subject of a declaratory judgment action from Micron, which has settled.

Two more Wilus Wi-Fi patents challenged

On January 30, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 12,166,587, owned by Wilus Institute of Standards & Technology, Inc., an entity of Good Day to Invent, Inc. The ‘587 patent generally related to how to identify padding in Wi-Fi trigger frames. The '587 patent has not been asserted itself, but it is the latest issued patent in a family being used in litigation.

On February 3, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 11,284,475, also owned by Wilus. The ‘475 patent is generally related to setting a Basic Service Set (BSS) color in a responsive Wi-Fi Physical Layer Protocol Data Units (PPDU) when a received PPDU does or does not include a trigger frame that indicates the BSS color. The '475 patent has not been asserted, but it is related to patents being used in litigation.

Additional Bunker Hill EV patents prior art found

Unified Patents plans to release charted prior art on Bunker Hill patents weekly until its assertion of invalid patents ceases. Unified has released several charts within the last few weeks:

U.S. Patent 8,086,364 outlines a system for optimizing the usage of energy storage components in vehicles by utilizing algorithms to match a vehicle's current location with map data, thereby enabling strategic energy use based on route information. U.S. Patent 10,549,648 features a multi-channel DC bus assembly, two traction motors, a transmission with planetary gears, and an internal combustion engine. U.S. Patent 11,374,508 focuses on an advanced drive system for vehicles featuring dual electric motors, a power conversion device, an energy storage system (ESS), a transmission, a power split device with planetary sets, and an energy management system (EMS).

iScan2D Technologies device-pairing patent prior art found

The team at Unified used Pearl to successfully identify and chart prior art against U.S. Patent 11,664,123, owned by iScan2D Technologies, LLC. The ‘123 patent is broadly directed to wirelessly pairing a “wearable activity device” and a “mobile device” with at least one “camera sensor” via a “color coded digital scannable media”. The patent has been asserted against Apple.

Key Patent Innovations entity, Malikie Innovations, data synchronization patent prior art found

The team at Unified used Pearl to successfully identify and chart prior art against U.S. Patent 7,496,606, owned by Malikie Innovations Limited, an NPE and entity of Key Patent Innovations. The ‘606 patent relates to a system and method for data synchronization across multiple databases, especially in wireless communication environments, facilitating synchronization and conflict resolution by appending synchronization parameters to data records. The patent has been asserted against SAP.
