VE Opening cross-application search patent challenged

On September 18, 2026, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,916,079, owned by VE Opening LLC, an NPE. The '079 patent generally relates to methods of enabling information sharing between applications on a computer, and specifically performing a search for content across multiple applications and linking/displaying content from those applications as part of a search result list. The '079 patent is being asserted in litigation against Upland Software and others. All VE Opening cases are being litigated by David Bennett at Direction IP.

NovaCloud Licensing DASH patent challenged

On September 11, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,949,206 owned and asserted by NovaCloud Licensing LLC, an NPE. The ‘206 patent is directed to streaming video services based on DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP). It has been asserted against Akamai Technologies and others. NovaCloud has been litigating a portfolio of former Ericsson patents since May of 2025.

UBQS-IP file collaboration patent challenged

On September 2, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,313,580, owned and asserted by UBQS-IP LLC, an NPE and entity of Pueblo Nuevo LLC. The '580 patent is directed to sharing information between a user group and an associated document using decentralized storage.

Another WirelessWerx IP geofencing patent challenged

On July 30, 2026, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,009,037, owned by WirelessWerx IP LLC, an NPE and Dynamic IP Deals LLC entity. The ‘037 patent is directed to tracking and managing wireless devices using geofencing techniques. It is currently asserted against Flytrex, EZ Web Enterprises, and Parking Guidance Systems.

InstaCom communications patent challenged

On July 28, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,298,644, owned and asserted by InstaCom LLC, an NPE and entity of Elon Life LLC. The '644 patent relates to an instant communications system having established communication channels between communication devices. It was previously asserted against Samsung.
