Fitistics fitness tracking patent found invalid

On March 19, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,185,738, owned and asserted by Fitistics, LLC, an NPE. The ‘738 patent is generally directed to tracking exercise using a handheld device to obtain data from an exercise machine or body monitoring device. The patent had been asserted against Huawei and Fossil.

SLS Manager Tech router patent challenge instituted

On February 7, 2024, less than two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,763,084, owned and asserted by SLS Manager Technologies LLC, an NPE and AiPi Solutions entity. The '084 patent is generally directed to a session router that selects a server to process a location request. It is currently being asserted against Cisco and was previously asserted against Microsoft, Oracle, and Juniper Networks.

Better Browsing web browser patent invalidated

On February 12, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,838,736, owned and asserted by Better Browsing LLC. The '736 patent relates generally to a zoom feature for an internet browser and has been asserted against Samsung, Hewlett Packard, Lenovo, Opera Norway AS, Toshiba, Acer, Razer, and ASUSTeK.

Bandspeed Bluetooth patent found invalid

On January 23, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,903,608, owned and asserted by Bandspeed, LLC, an NPE. The ‘608 patent is generally directed to communication devices for adaptive frequency-hopping based on channel performance. The patent had been asserted in over 20 litigations since 2014 but most recently against Renesas, Itron, Espressif Systems, TCL, ASUStek, and others.

Empire IP entity Liberty Access door locks patent found invalid

On January 22, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,373,474 owned by Liberty Access Technologies Licensing LLC, an NPE and Empire IP LLC entity. The '474 patent is directed to access control systems for door locks via an application on a portable device. The patent had been asserted against Marriott International and ASSA ABLOY.
