On October 28, 2026, two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,212,422, owned by Ideahub Inc., an NPE. The ‘422 patent is directed to video coding and decoding using quantization parameters based on the block information of the specific encoding or decoding object block. A related patent was asserted in Europe. The ‘422 patent has been designated as essential to the VVC standard in the Access Advance’s VVC patent pool.

UBQS-IP file collaboration patent challenge granted

On October 21, 2026, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,313,580, owned and asserted by UBQS-IP LLC, an NPE and entity of Pueblo Nuevo LLC. The '580 patent is directed to sharing information between a user group and an associated document using decentralized storage. The patent has been involved in litigation.

Datascription speech recognition patent challenged

On October 16, 2026, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,230,547, owned by Datascription LLC, an NPE. The ’547 patent relates to transcribing media using speech recognition, normalizing the audio’s loudness over time onto a universal scale, and storing the time-aligned transcription, video frames, and loudness values in a searchable database. The patent has been used in litigation.

Intellectual Discovery video compression patent challenged

On October 14, 2026, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 11,677,940, owned by Intellectual Discovery Co., Ltd., an NPE. The ‘940 patent covers a method for efficiently dividing video frames into smaller blocks for compression by using a Multi-Type-Tree (MTT) framework (quad-tree, binary-tree, and ternary-tree) with specific rules governing corner boundary splits as its alleged point of novelty. The ‘940 patent was identified as essential to Access Advance's VVC/H.266 pool and this filing is a part of Unified’s Video Codec SEP Zone.

Another Wilus Wi-Fi patent challenge granted

On September 30, 2026, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,651,992, owned by Wilus Institute of Standards & Technology, Inc., an entity of Good Day to Invent, Inc. This overcame Wilus’s Pre-Order Paper seeking denial. The '992 patent relates to a wireless communication method for coexistence between a legacy wireless communication terminal and a non-legacy wireless communication terminal in a wireless communication environment. It has been asserted against Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) enabled network devices made by TP-Link and Askey Computer.
