Malikie Wi-Fi patent challenged

On July 17, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 12,395,899, another patent owned by Malikie Innovations Limited, an NPE and entity of Key Patent Innovations Limited. The ‘899 patent relates to the negotiation of the prioritization of network management traffic by Wi-Fi stations and access points. This negotiation involves transmitting management frame quality of service (MFQ) policies and requests for changes to MFQ policies between stations and access points. Malikie Innovations has filed several other litigations funded by Key Patent Innovations Limited against networking communications, apps, and Wi-Fi devices.

Velos H.265 video codec patent challenged

On July 20, 2026, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 12,088,843, owned by Velos Media, an NPE. The '843 patent is generally directed to selecting the best motion vector to encode or decode a current block of a video frame. It has been asserted against H.265 compliant devices from Bytedance and Disney.

Fortress Investment entity DivX video playback patent challenged

On July 20, 2026, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,576,716, owned and asserted by DivX LLC, an NPE and entity of Fortress Investment Group LLC. The ‘716 patent is generally directed to progressive video playback systems where a client application on a device retrieves portions of a media file from a remote server and plays the media as it is being downloaded. The ‘716 patent has not been asserted in litigation, however, it is related to U.S. Patent 10,412,141 which was asserted against Realtek, TCL, Samsung, Hulu, and Amazon.

AutoConnect Holdings vehicle network patent challenge granted

On July 13, 2026, two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,290,153, owned and asserted by AutoConnect Holdings LLC, an NPE. The ‘153 patent relates to device discovery methods and systems for controlling access of a communication device to an on-board vehicle network. It has been asserted against GM, Toyota, and Ford.

On July 9, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,372,960, owned by Malikie Innovations Limited, an NPE and entity of Key Patent Innovations Limited. The ‘960 patent relates to finite field calculations in cryptography. The patent has been asserted against Core Scientific, Foundry Digital, and MARA Holdings. Malikie Innovations has filed several other litigations funded by Key Patent Innovations Limited against networking communications, apps, and Wi-Fi devices.
