Emerging Automotive e-Keys patent challenge instituted

On April 15, 2024, less than one month after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,738,659, owned and asserted by Emerging Automotive LLC. The ‘659 patent generally relates to systems and methods for generating and sharing electronic keys (e-Keys) with users and cloud-based processing systems making e-Keys sharable for enabling shared use of a vehicle. It has been asserted against Toyota and Kia.

InfoGation navigation patent challenge instituted

On April 11, 2024, six weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,406,994, owned and asserted by InfoGation Corporation, an NPE. The '994 patent is generally directed to displaying maps on GPS receivers. It has been asserted against Toyota, Honda, BMW, and Changan Ford Automobile Company.

DKR Consulting e-commerce patent challenged

On April 9, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 11,455,678, owned and asserted by DKR Consulting, LLC. The ‘678 patent relates to the generation and distribution of widgets for commerce over the internet. The patent has been asserted against Shopify.

Umbra Tech firewall patent challenge instituted

On March 29, 2024, less than three months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,574,482, owned and asserted by Umbra Technologies Ltd. The ’482 patent is relevant to systems using a multi-perimeter firewall in a cloud-based system. The patent has been asserted against Cisco and VMware.

Bedrock IP entity Cobblestone Wireless 4G/5G patent challenged

On March 26, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,924,802, owned and asserted by Cobblestone Wireless, LLC, an NPE and entity of Bedrock IP Co., Ltd. The ‘802 patent relates to wireless communication systems that transmit signals simultaneously over a communication channel at different RF center frequencies. The patent has been asserted against Samsung, AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Cisco, HP Enterprises, and CommScope.
