Mesa Digital smartphone patent found invalid

On June 23, 2026, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) issued an Advisory Action in the reexamination filing of U.S. Patent 9,031,537, owned and asserted by Mesa Digital LLC, an NPE and entity associated with Ortiz & Lopez, PLLC (d/b/a OL PATENTS). The Examiner maintained the rejections of all challenged claims of the ‘537 patent. The ‘537 patent is directed to an electronic wireless handheld multimedia device that is capable of bidirectional communication with a remote resource for electronic materials over cellular, wireless LAN and Bluetooth networks, after accepting a passcode by a user, along with a touch sensitive display screen. It has been asserted against over 75 defendants, including Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Apple, HTC, LG, Gen Mobile, Nuu, and BLU Products.

Atlas Global Wi-Fi patent challenge granted

On June 22, 2026, after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims (1-20) of U.S. Patent 10,020,919, owned and asserted by Atlas Global Technologies, LLC, an NPE and Acacia Research entity. The ‘919 patent generally relates to sounding operations for identifying channel conditions in a wireless network based on Wi-Fi transmissions exchanged between an access point and wireless stations in the network. The patent is currently being asserted against HPE and Walmart, but has been asserted against several companies in the past whose products comply with the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard.

Flash Uplink hard drive firmware patent challenged

On June 19, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,426,633 owned and asserted by Flash Uplink LLC, an NPE and entity of Quest Patent Research Corporation. The ‘633 patent generally relates to updating disk-drive firmware with minimal downtime. It has been asserted against QNAP Systems and Lenovo.

Ambient Analytics entity, Stratacor, advertising patent challenged

On June 5, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 11,257,115 owned and asserted by Stratacor LLC, an NPE and entity of Ambient Analytics LLC. The ‘115 patent generally relates to providing targeted advertising based on monitoring a user’s mouse movements. It has been asserted against Alibaba Group Holding Limited.

Equitable IP entity, Induction Devices, EMV chip patent challenged

On May 29, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,370,543, owned and asserted by Induction Devices LLC, an NPE and entity of Equitable IP Corporation. The ‘543 patent relates to synchronization of communication between devices operating in different clock or time domains, especially a processor accessing memory on a different clock. The patent has been asserted against 25+ banks and retailers including Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Capital One, Truist, Costco, Lowes, Gap, IKEA, and others.
