Empire IP entity, IOT Innovations, IOT controller patent challenged

On May 16, 2025, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,085,796, owned and asserted by IOT Innovations, LLC, an NPE and Empire IP entity. The ‘796 patent relates to controlling communications with a user's various communication devices. It has been asserted against IOT systems, such as in Fibar Group, Snap One, and Savant Systems.

Mesa Digital smartphone patent challenged

On May 9, 2025, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,031,537, owned and asserted by Mesa Digital LLC, an NPE and entity associated with Ortiz & Lopez, PLLC (d/b/a OL PATENTS). The ‘537 patent is directed to an electronic wireless handheld multimedia device that is capable of bidirectional communication with a remote resource for electronic materials over cellular, wireless LAN and Bluetooth networks, after accepting a passcode by a user, along with a touch sensitive display screen. It has been asserted against over 75 defendants, including Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Apple, HTC, LG, Gen Mobile, Nuu, and BLU Products.

RazDog web video control patent challenge instituted

On May 14, 2025, two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,334,068, owned and asserted by RazDog Holdings LLC. The ‘068 patent relates to providing users with interactive elements on a video player webpage. It is currently asserted against Twitch but has been asserted against Cook Brothers, Continental Salvage, and Cooling Equipment Services in the past.

Morris Routing network patent challenge instituted

On May 13, 2025, one month after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 12,058,042, owned and asserted by Morris Routing Technologies, LLC, an NPE. The ‘042 patent relates to path-based data routing in a network. It is currently being asserted against Verizon, Samsung, T-Mobile, and AT&T

Dynamic IP Deals entity, AK Meeting, groupware patent challenge instituted

On May 12, 2025, three weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,180,765, owned and asserted by AK Meeting, an NPE and Dynamic IP Deals entity. The ‘765 patent relates to computer-supported cooperative work, also known as groupware, and has been asserted against Adobe.
