Another Wilus Wi-Fi patent challenge instituted

On March 10, 2026, five weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,284,475, owned by Wilus Institute of Standards & Technology, Inc., an entity of Good Day to Invent, Inc.. The ‘475 patent is generally related to setting a Basic Service Set (BSS) color in a responsive Wi-Fi Physical Layer Protocol Data Units (PPDU) when a received PPDU does or does not include a trigger frame that indicates the BSS color. The '475 patent has not been asserted, but it is related to patents being used in litigation.

Mimzi Stay Based in Part on Unified’s Reexam Granted in EDTX

On March 27, 2026, Magistrate Judge Roy Payne has granted the motion to stay the Eastern District of Texas litigation against Ford, Subaru, and Mercedes-Benz AG pending resolution of Unified’s ex parte reexamination challenging U.S. Patent 9,792,361 and the Mercedes reexaminations challenging U.S. Patent 9,792,361 and U.S. Patent 11,100,163. In addition, the cases against Honda, Hyundai, and Nissan have been voluntarily dismissed.

In October 2025, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against the '361 patent, owned and asserted by Mimzi, LLC, an NPE. The ’361 patent relates to using a phone to record phone calls, meetings, and dictation, and to store associated metadata, audio, and/or speech-recognized text in a centralized, content-searchable repository. OptimNet cloud patent challenged

On March 27, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,112,934, owned and asserted by OptimNet LLC, an NPE. The ‘934 patent generally relates to a content delivery networking method and apparatus that builds a content delivery overlay network for transferring media content to users. It has been asserted against Amazon Web Services and Amazon.com Services for the provision of cloud services.

DynaIP entity, WirelessWerx IP, geotracking patent found invalid

On March 26, 2026, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate cancelling all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,317,927 owned by WirelessWerx IP LLC, an NPE and Dynamic IP Deals LLC entity. The '927 patent relates to location tracking and has been asserted in over 60 litigations against companies like Apple, Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, MapleBear, FedEx, DHL Express, and Life360.

Dominion Harbor entity, Bunker Hill, EV battery patent challenged

On March 27, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,914,365, asserted by Bunker Hill Technologies, an NPE and entity of Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC. The ’365 patent generally relates to a power electronic charging apparatus for rapidly charging a DC energy storage device. It has been asserted against Ford, Toyota, and Nissan.
