On April 24, 2026, after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,777,776, owned by AX Wireless, LLC, an NPE and entity of IdeaHub. The ‘776 patent generally relates to header field configurations (e.g., header repetition) in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems (802.11n). It has been asserted against Sony, TP Link, Ubiquiti, D-Link, Vantiva, and ASUSTek. The filing is part of Unified’s ongoing efforts in the SEP Wi-Fi Zone.

Malikie video codec patent challenged

On May 2, 2025, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,778,989, another patent owned by Malikie Innovations Limited, an NPE and entity of Key Patent Innovations Limited. The ‘989 patent, formerly assigned to Blackberry Ltd., relates to a rolling intra prediction video codec method based on the H.264/AVC/HEVC standards. Malikie Innovations has filed several other litigations funded by Key Patent Innovations Limited against networking communications, apps, and Wi-Fi devices.

Acacia entity, Atlas Global, Wi-Fi patent challenge granted

On April 22, 2026, after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,628,310, owned and asserted by Atlas Global Technologies, LLC, an NPE and Acacia Research entity. The ‘310 patent is directed to the format of HE LTFs (high efficiency long training fields) for various combinations of HE LTF modes and channel bandwidths in Wi-Fi transmissions. The patent is currently being asserted against HPE, but has been asserted against Arcadyan Technology, Dell, and Vantiva in the past.

The ‘418 patent generally relates to a method of operating secure applications on an enterprise mobile device. It has been asserted against Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, PreEmptive Solutions, Rapid7, Open Text, and Trend Micro Inc.

On May 4, 2026, five weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on claims 1-12 of U.S. Patent 9,112,934, owned and asserted by OptimNet LLC, an NPE. The ‘934 patent generally relates to a content delivery networking method and apparatus that builds a content delivery overlay network for transferring media content to users.
