Atlas Global Wi-Fi patent challenge instituted

On February 10, 2026, less than two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all claims of U.S. Patent 10,348,471, owned and asserted by Atlas Global Technologies, LLC, an NPE and Acacia Research entity. The ‘471 patent is generally directed to Wi-Fi apparatuses and methods for indicating the use of and providing information for a central resource unit (RU) when using channel bandwidths where the central RU is available for allocation (e.g., bandwidths of 80 MHz or greater). The patent is currently being asserted against HPE, accusing Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard features.

Acacia entity, Stingray IP, Wi-Fi patent found invalid

On February 5, 2026, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) issued an Advisory Action in the reexamination filing of U.S. Patent 7,224,678, owned and asserted by Stingray IP Solutions, an NPE and entity of Acacia Research Corporation. The Examiner maintained the rejections of all challenged claims of the ‘678 patent. The ‘678 patent relates to detecting an intrusion in a network system. It was asserted against Leedarson IoT, Schlage Lock, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Vivint, and Allegion.

Polaris PowerLED power management patent found invalid

On February 2, 2026, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate cancelling challenged claims 18-21 of U.S. Patent 8,181,042, owned by Polaris PowerLED Technologies, LLC, an NPE. The ‘042 patent generally relates to power management in integrated circuits. It was the subject of a declaratory judgment action from Micron, which has settled.

Second Atlas Global Wi-Fi patent challenged

On January 21, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,965,425, owned and asserted by Atlas Global Technologies, LLC, an NPE and Acacia Research entity. The ‘425 patent is generally directed to allocating and signalling the allocation of a special center 26-tone resource unit when employing 80 MHz or higher bandwidths in OFDMA wireless communications. The patent is currently being asserted against HPE, accusing access points that support Wi-Fi 6.

Ascend Innovations entity, Byteweavr, cloud data patent found invalid

On December 30, 2025, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate cancelling most of the claims of U.S. Patent 6,862,488, owned and asserted by Byteweavr, LLC, an NPE and Ascend Innovations entity. The ‘488 patent relates to automated validation and workflow management. It had been asserted against Databricks and Cloudera.
