SoundStreak Texas adaptive streaming patent found invalid in reexam

On July 14, 2023, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of all claims of U.S. Patent 10,726,822, owned and asserted by SoundStreak Texas LLC, an NPE and entity of Quest Patent Research Corporation. The ’822 patent is directed to simultaneously establishing high- and low- quality data formats for streaming and storing digital content during a live event. The patent was asserted against Fujifilm Holdings, Delair SAS, Flyability S.A., Parrot S.A., Drone Volt, S.A., EHang Holdings Limited, Yamaha, Olympus, Nikon, Sony, and Panasonic.

$2,000 awarded for Douglas G. Richardson animation patent prior art

Unified is pleased to announce PATROLL crowdsourcing contest winner, Vibhor Dimri, was awarded $2,000 for his prior art submission on U.S. Patent 8,035,644, owned by Douglas G. Richardson. The patent was formerly owned by Cine Graphic Solutions, an NPE and a subsidiary of Strategic Intellectual Solutions, LLC. The ‘644 patent generally relates to providing animation in electronic communications, such as emails and websites and had been asserted against Motorola, Samsung, and Fujifilm.

Mobile Data Tech content sharing patent reexam instituted

On July 21, 2023, just five weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the USPTO granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,793,336, owned and asserted by Mobile Data Technologies LLC, an NPE. The '336 patent relates to systems for sharing content. The patent has been asserted against Meta Platforms.

Fortress IP entity Neo Wireless '366 cellular patent prior art

Unified is pleased to announce prior art has been found on U.S. Patent 8,467,366, owned by Neo Wireless, LLC, an NPE and Fortress IP entity. The ‘366 patent generally relates to a method and apparatus in a multi-carrier cellular wireless network with random access to improve receiving reliability and reduce interference of uplink signals of a random access, while improving the detection performance of a base station receiver by employing specifically configured ranging signals. The patent has been asserted against several automotive companies such as Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, GM, Toyota, Honda, and Ford.

Dynapass IP user authentication patent likely invalid

On July 18, 2023, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) instituted trial on all challenged claims in an IPR filed by Unified against U.S. Patent 6,993,658, owned and asserted by Dynapass IP Holdings LLC. The '658 patent is generally directed to two factor authentication systems using personal communication devices. The '658 patent had been asserted against several banks including JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Truist, and PNC, and was recently asserted against Amazon and Experian.
