On January 19, 2023, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) instituted trial on all challenged claims in an IPR filed by Unified against U.S. Patent 6,473,532, owned and asserted by DigiMedia Tech LLC, an NPE and an IP Investments Group entity. The ‘532 patent relates generally to processing and encoding of video images for later compression by standard compression techniques. This patent has been asserted against ViacomCBS, Lenovo, and Panasonic.

Fortress/SoftBank entity DivX video codec patent held invalid

On January 20, 2023, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) issued a final written decision in Unified Patents, LLC v. DivX, LLC holding all challenge claims of U.S. Patent 10,326,987 unpatentable. Owned by DivX, LLC, an affiliate of SoftBank Group Corp, this filing is part of Unified's ongoing efforts in its SEP Video Codec Zone. The '987 patent was asserted against Hulu and is directed to encoding alternative streams of video for use in adaptive bitrate streaming.
