Dominion Harbor entity, Arlington Technologies, Wi-Fi patent found invalid

On April 3, 2026, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate cancelling claims 1-3, 5-6, and 8-9 of U.S. Patent 7,193,986, owned and asserted by Arlington Technologies LLC, an NPE and entity of the Dominion Harbor Group. The ‘986 patent is generally directed to communications between a master wireless network device and one or more slave network devices using a medium access protocol such as the MAC protocol. It was asserted against Comcast and T-Mobile on products that are wireless access points configured to support 802.11ax.

Acacia entity, Atlas Global, Wi-Fi patent challenge instituted

On April 8, 2026, three months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,965,425, owned and asserted by Atlas Global Technologies, LLC, an NPE and Acacia Research entity. The ‘425 patent is generally directed to allocating and signalling the allocation of a special center 26-tone resource unit when employing 80 MHz or higher bandwidths in OFDMA wireless communications. The patent is currently being asserted against HPE, accusing access points that support Wi-Fi 6.

Congruent Media app security patent challenged

On April 3, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,135,418, owned and asserted by Congruent Media Resourcing LLC, an NPE. The ‘418 patent generally relates to a method of operating secure applications on an enterprise mobile device. It has been asserted against Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, PreEmptive Solutions, and Trend Micro Inc.

Another Wilus Wi-Fi patent challenge instituted

On March 10, 2026, five weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,284,475, owned by Wilus Institute of Standards & Technology, Inc., an entity of Good Day to Invent, Inc.. The ‘475 patent is generally related to setting a Basic Service Set (BSS) color in a responsive Wi-Fi Physical Layer Protocol Data Units (PPDU) when a received PPDU does or does not include a trigger frame that indicates the BSS color. The '475 patent has not been asserted, but it is related to patents being used in litigation.

OptimNet cloud patent challenged

On March 27, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,112,934, owned and asserted by OptimNet LLC, an NPE. The ‘934 patent generally relates to a content delivery networking method and apparatus that builds a content delivery overlay network for transferring media content to users. It has been asserted against Amazon Web Services and Amazon.com Services for the provision of cloud services.
