Acacia entity, Atlas Global, Wi-Fi patent challenge instituted

On April 8, 2026, three months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,965,425, owned and asserted by Atlas Global Technologies, LLC, an NPE and Acacia Research entity. The ‘425 patent is generally directed to allocating and signalling the allocation of a special center 26-tone resource unit when employing 80 MHz or higher bandwidths in OFDMA wireless communications. The patent is currently being asserted against HPE, accusing access points that support Wi-Fi 6.
