On September 10, 2026, two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on challenged claims 1-2, 6-10, 13-14, and 18-20 of U.S. Patent 12,088,843, owned by Velos Media, an NPE. The '843 patent is generally directed to selecting the best motion vector to encode or decode a current block of a video frame. It has been asserted in litigation against H.265 compliant devices.
