On February 26, 2026, one month after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 12,166,587, owned by Wilus Institute of Standards & Technology, Inc., an entity of Good Day to Invent, Inc. The ‘587 patent generally related to how to identify padding in Wi-Fi trigger frames. The '587 patent has not been asserted itself, but it is the latest issued patent in a family being used in litigation.
