On October 4, 2017, Unified, represented by Erise IP, filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 6,820,807 owned and asserted by Kaldren LLC, a subsidiary of IP Edge, a well-known NPE. The '807 patent, which discloses a method of formatting digital data into an encoded pattern onto a physical substrate, has been asserted in 38 district court cases since March 2017 (~ 6 new cases/month). The following companies are still in litigation with Kaldren over the '807 patent.
