Velos HEVC/H264 video codec patent confirmed invalid by PTAB

On March 18, 2025, the PTAB confirmed the final rejection of all claims in the ex parte reexamination of U.S. Patent 10,390,013, owned by Velos Media, an NPE. The '013 patent generally relates to encoding syntax elements that indicate tile information into a slice header. Velos Media patents have been identified as part of the Avanci Video patent pool, and Avanci asserts its pool covers AV1, H.265 (HEVC), H.266 (VVC), MPEG-DASH, and VP9 technologies.

IngenioSpec augmented reality patent challenge instituted

On March 18, 2025, six weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,310,296, owned and asserted by IngenioSpec LLC, an NPE. The ‘296 patent relates to eyeglasses incorporating components to connect with a user's electronic devices.

$4,000 for TG--2006 Holdings info tracking patents prior art

Unified Patents added two new PATROLL contests, each with a $2,000 cash prize, seeking prior art on the list below. The patents are owned by TG--2006 Holdings, LLC, an NPE. The patents relates generally to information tracking, and in particular, to a system and method of tracking information in a business environment. The patents have been asserted asserted against Monday.com, Dropbox, Notion Labs, and Spreadsheet.com.

Muvox song selection patent challenge instituted

On March 17, 2025, five weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,899,713, owned and asserted by Muvox LLC, an NPE. The ‘713 patent is generally directed to selecting a song based on mood. It has been asserted against several companies, with cases currently pending against Spotify, Meta, BMG Rights Management, and Netaktion.
