Ascend Innovations entity, Byteweavr, validation patent challenge instituted

On February 21, 2025, less than two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 6,862,488, owned and asserted by Byteweavr, LLC, an NPE and Ascend Innovations entity. The ‘488 patent relates to automated validation and workflow management. It has been asserted against Databricks and Cloudera.

BrowserKey security patent challenged

On February 21, 2025, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against claims 11-17 of U.S. Patent 7,249,262, owned and asserted by BrowserKey LLC, an NPE. The '262 patent generally relates to a method of restricting data access to a server by unauthorized client machines. It has been asserted against Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Charles Schwab.

$2,000 for Eric Zautner entity, Navog, GPS patent prior art

Unified Patents added a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 10,593,205, owned and asserted by Navog LLC, an NPE and entity of Eric Zautner. The '205 patent relates to a GPS monitoring and alarm system that would warn truckers, bus and RV drivers, approaching underpasses, bridges, viaducts, tunnels, and other structures of insufficient clearance for their vehicle. It has been asserted against Garmin, TeleType Co., and Sygic.

Another Fractus LTE antenna patent challenged

On February 21, 2025, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,593,349, owned and asserted by Fractus S.A., an NPE. The ‘349 patent generally relates to a volumetric antenna for use in a wireless devices.

IPVal entity, 5G IP Holdings, 5G patent found invalid

On February 18, 2025, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling all claims (claims 1-12) of U.S. Patent 10,813,163, owned and asserted by 5G IP Holdings LLC, an NPE and IP Valuation Partners, LLC entity. The '163 patent generally relates to discontinuous reception (DRX) and utilizing slots within subframes to adapt DRX to function within the 5G frame structure. The patent had previously been asserted against Apple and Samsung.
