Unified Patents added a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, seeking prior art on claims 1 and 9 of U.S. Patent 9,286,282, owned and asserted by Mov-Ology, LLC, an NPE. The patent relates to methods to retrieve data from partially completed electronic forms and use the retrieved data to identify the consumer who accessed the electronic form. The patent has been asserted against BigCommerce, Temenos AG, Formisimo, and Mouseflow ApS.

Oso IP entity, USTA Technology, Wi-Fi 5 patent challenged

On October 14, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent RE 47,720, owned by USTA Technology LLC, an NPE and entity of Oso IP, LLC. The patent relates to a method of spectrum-adaptive networking using the 802.11 standard. It has been asserted against Google, AT&T, ASUS, Lenovo, LG, and Samsung.

Express Mobile website-builder claim cancelled

On October 3, 2024, the Patent Office issued a reexamination certificate cancelling claim 1 of U.S. Patent 6,546,397, owned and asserted by Express Mobile, Inc. In May 2024, the Federal Circuit affirmed the Patent Office's final decision confirming that claim 1 was unpatentable. The ’397 patent generally relates to website building software. Express Mobile has asserted this patent over 100 times in district court against companies employing both proprietary website-building platforms and open-source platforms like WordPress and Magento. Its numerous complaints have included assertions against companies large and small, including eGrove Systems, Shopify, Web.com Group, Inc., Squarespace, and HubSpot.
