IP Investments entity DigiMedia Tech H.264/AVC patent found invalid

On September 3, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling the challenged claims (claims 1-2, 4-5, and 8-9) of U.S. Patent 6,606,287, owned by DigiMedia Tech, LLC, an NPE and an IP Investments Group entity. The ‘287 patent generally relates to recording and storing a media signal, while determining an optimal compression rate based on characteristics of the media signal while maintaining acceptable quality. The patent has been asserted against devices using H.264 / AVC from companies including Panasonic, Lenovo, OnePlus, TCT Mobile, Xiaomi, and Best Buy.

IPVal entity, 5G IP Holdings, 5G patent found invalid

On September 5, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,813,163, owned and asserted by 5G IP Holdings LLC, an NPE and IP Valuation Partners, LLC entity. The '163 patent generally relates to discontinuous reception (DRX) and utilizing slots within subframes to adapt DRX to function within the 5G frame structure. The patent is currently being asserted against Apple and had previously been asserted against Samsung.

On September 5, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling the challenged claims (1-19 and 21) of U.S. Patent 7,739,714, owned and asserted by Distributed Media Solutions, an NPE and entity of IP Investments Group. The ‘714 patent relates to methods and systems for encoding digital multimedia data for transmission over a network. The patent has been asserted against AMC Networks, CuriosityStream, and Fenix International.
