DynaIP entity, Cloud Systems HoldCo IP, IoT patent found invalid

On June 28, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,909,779, owned and asserted by Cloud Systems HoldCo IP, LLC, an NPE and DynaIP entity.  The ’779 patent relates to methods for controlling devices in an environment. It has been asserted against over ten companies, including Carrier Global, Google, Monitronics International, Philips North America, and Ring.

$2,000 for Analytical Technologies customer service patent prior art

Unified Patents added a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 8,799,083, owned by Analytical Technologies, LLC, an NPE. The ‘083 patent relates to restaurant customer service management systems and methods. It has been asserted against Dairy Queen, Raising Canes, Denny's, Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A, Five Guys, and others.

Rothschild entity, Quantum Technology Innovations, media streaming patent challenged

On June 21, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,650,376, owned and asserted by Quantum Technology Innovations, LLC, an NPE and Leigh Rothschild entity. The '376 patent relates to the distribution of content over a network. It has been asserted against 11 companies, including Showtime Networks, Dish Network, Sirius XM, Pandora, Valve, and BroadwayHD.

Monticello Enterprises payment patent challenge instituted

On June 14, 2024, six weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,468,497, owned and asserted by Monticello Enterprises LLC. The ‘497 patent relates to transmitting user payment data to a merchant device based on inputs received from a user. The patent has been asserted against Starbucks, Petco, and Macy's

Facet traffic recognition patent challenged

On June 20, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,671,328, owned and asserted by Facet Technology Corp., an NPE. The '328 patent relates to a system of assessing and classifying road signs depicted in a video stream. It has been asserted against General Motors, TomTom, Mobileye Global, and Here Global.
