Vision Works IP automotive patent challenged

On July 14, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,437,935, owned and asserted by Vision Works IP Corp., an NPE. The ’935 patent generally relates to a vehicle monitoring system for turning off an idling engine. The ’935 patent is currently being asserted against Nissan and was previously asserted against Mercedes-Benz USA.

$2,000 for Jeffrey M. Gross entity, Gametronics, signal control patent prior art

A new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, was added seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 8,614,667, owned by Gametronics, an NPE and entity of Jeffrey M. Gross. The ‘667 patent generally relates to an ergonomic apparatus for generating data signals that may be indicative of alphanumeric characters for use with an electronic device or system such as a computer or electric typewriter. The patent has been asserted against Nintendo, Sony, and 8Bitdo Technology.

On March 30, 2023, the Japanese Patent Office found that the original claims of JP6909818 were obvious in view of the known art. The JP '818 patent is owned by GE Video Compression LLC (GEVC). The JP '419 is owned by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). The JP‘419 patent is related to patents that have been designated essential in both the Access Advance and AV1 pools.

On August 4, 2022, the Japanese Patent Office found that the only claim of JP6968024 was obvious and also not novel in view of the known art. The JP '024 patent is owned by InterDigital VC Holdings. The ‘024 patent is related to patents that have been designated as essential to SISVEL’s VP9 and AV1 pools.
