PacSec3 '497 firewall patent claims cancelled in ex parte reexamination

On May 1, 2023, the Central Reexamination Unit issued a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate, canceling claims 1, 4, 13, and 16 of U.S. Patent 7,523,497, owned by PacSec3, an NPE. PacSec3 was formed in 2020 with NACAR IP LLC as its managing member. NACAR IP was also formed in early 2020 with Dynamic IP Deals, LLC (d/b/a DynaIP), a patent monetization company, identified as its managing member. The ‘497 patent had been asserted against F5 Networks, NetScout Systems, Palo Alto Networks, McAfee, Cisco, and Juniper Networks.

$2,000 awarded for Tiare Technology patron counter patent prior art

A new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, was added seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 9,854,207, owned by Sotat, LLC, an NPE. The ‘207 patent generally relates to a mobile device in communication with a server, where the server is adapted for receiving surveillance data that is transferred electronically from a surveillance area. The patent is currently being asserted against Resideo, Canary Connect, Vivint, and Wyze Labs.

CTD Networks cybersecurity patent reexam granted

On May 1, 2023, less than one month after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,438,614, owned by CTD Networks, LLC. The patent relates to a network threat and response system and is being asserted against Akamai Technologies, Amazon, Cisco, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Musarubra US, Palo Alto Networks, AT&T, and Verizon.

DigiMedia Tech video patent challenged

On April 27, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 6,744,818, owned by DigiMedia Tech, LLC, an NPE and an IP Investments Group entity. The ‘818 patent relates generally to processing, encoding, and compressing frames of video images using visual perception and compression thresholds. The patent has been asserted against Ricoh, Lenovo, CBS/Paramount, Showtime, Mediacom, Panasonic, and Comcast.
