Former Velos EP patent successfully challenged at the EPO

On February 22, 2022, all of the original claims of EP 2 347 591 B1, formerly owned by Velos Media, LLC and now owned by Qualcomm, were found unpatentable based on a challenge filed by Unified. The ‘591 patent is generally related to decoding data using macroblocks. This filing is a part of Unified's ongoing efforts in its SEP Video Codec Zone.

DivX patent likely invalid

On March 17, 2022, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) instituted trial on all challenged claims in an IPR filed by Unified against U.S. Patent 10,326,987, owned by DivX, LLC, an affiliate of SoftBank Group Corp. This filing is part of Unified's ongoing efforts in its SEP Video Codec Zone. The '987 patent was asserted against Hulu and is directed to encoding alternative streams of video for use in adaptive bitrate streaming.

$2,000 for Redwood Technologies '102 prior art

On March 4, 2022, Unified Patents added a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 7,917,102. The patent is owned by Redwood Technologies, LLC, an NPE and entity of the Dominion Harbor Group. The '102 patent generally relates to a radio transmitting apparatus that has a plurality of antennas and changes the number of modulated signals transmitted simultaneously according to the propagation environment. It has been asserted against Fortinet and Sonim Technologies.

On March 14, 2022, the Board issued an order terminating IPR2022-00287 pursuant to a joint settlement request filed by Unified Patents and Callstat Solutions LLC, an NPE and an entity of Jeffrey M. Gross. U.S. Patent 6,236,983 relates to collecting information about a computer system and applying rules to the collected information. It had been asserted against cybersecurity and client management software, including software sold by BMC Software, McAfee, and Check Point Software.
