U.S. Patent 9,975,439 generally uses a bi-directional buck/boost converter, the system adeptly manages energy transfer between a vehicle battery and an external source or an electric motor. U.S. Patent 10,291,158 generally manages power flow between the motors and the ESS, enabling different modes of operation such as driving the vehicle with both motors, using one motor to drive and the other as a generator, and managing energy storage with batteries and ultracapacitors.
