NovaCloud Licensing streaming patent challenge granted

On August 10, 2026, four weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,145,721 owned and asserted by NovaCloud Licensing LLC, an NPE. The ‘721 patent relates to a method of downloading a multimedia file from a server to a user device using, at least in part, a bandwidth-limited connection. It is currently asserted against Charter Communications, Comcast, Amazon, SAP, Meta, and Cox Communications.

DynaIP entity, Err Content, media casting patent confirmed invalid by PTAB

On July 30, 2026, the PTAB confirmed the final rejection of all challenged claims in the ex parte reexamination of U.S. Patent 10,721,542, owned and asserted by Err Content IP LLC, an NPE and entity of Pueblo Nuevo/DynaIP. The '542 patent generally relates to providing main content and extra content to a user through a reference item. It has been asserted against Panasonic, Hisense, Spotify, Roku, Comcast, LG Electronics, and others.

Another WirelessWerx IP geofencing patent challenged

On July 30, 2026, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,009,037, owned by WirelessWerx IP LLC, an NPE and Dynamic IP Deals LLC entity. The ‘037 patent is directed to tracking and managing wireless devices using geofencing techniques. It is currently asserted against Flytrex, EZ Web Enterprises, and Parking Guidance Systems.

InstaCom communications patent challenged

On July 28, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,298,644, owned and asserted by InstaCom LLC, an NPE and entity of Elon Life LLC. The '644 patent relates to an instant communications system having established communication channels between communication devices. It was previously asserted against Samsung

Wilus Wi-Fi patent challenged

On July 24, 2026, Unified filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,651,992, owned by Wilus Institute of Standards & Technology, Inc., an entity of Good Day to Invent, Inc. The '992 patent relates to a wireless communication method for coexistence between a legacy wireless communication terminal and a non-legacy wireless communication terminal in a wireless communication environment. It has been asserted against Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) enabled network devices made by TP-Link and Askey Computer.
