On September 23, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,784,058, owned and asserted by VirtaMove Corp (f/k/a Appzero Software Corp). an NPE. The ’058 patent relates to operating system libraries and instanced computing environments. It has been asserted against IBM, Google, HP, and Amazon

Acacia entity, Monarch, networking patent found invalid

On September 20, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling all the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,451,845, owned and asserted by Monarch Networking Solutions, LLC, an Acacia Research Corp. entity.  The ‘845 patent relates to converting data packets between the IPv4 and IPv6 domains. It had been asserted against Cisco and Juniper Networks.

Third DynaIP entity, Cloud Systems, IoT patent challenge instituted

On September 20, 2024, five weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,975,051, owned and asserted by Cloud Systems HoldCo IP, LLC, an NPE and DynaIP entity.  The '051 patent relates to a system for controlling and configuring devices through a server. It had been asserted against Carrier, Google, Onity, Samsung, Vivint, and ADT, with current pending cases against Comcast, Kramer, Monitronics, and Ring.

Another Fractus LTE antenna patent challenged

On September 17, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,674,887, owned and asserted by Fractus S.A., an NPE. The ‘887 patent generally relates to an antenna design for mobile devices. The patent has been asserted against ADT.

Intellectual Ventures open source/Apache patent challenged

On September 16, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,407,722, owned by Intellectual Ventures I LLC, an NPE. The ’722 patent relates to remotely updating client content at client devices through digital networks. It has been asserted against JP Morgan Chase, Liberty Mutual Holding Company, and Comerica Incorporated, and accuses the use of open source software Apache Kafka.
