The team at Unified used Pearl to successfully identify and chart prior art against U.S. Patent 9,235,259 and U.S. Patent 9,602,649, owned by K.Mizra LLC, an NPE. The ‘259 patent relates detecting short “tick” sounds in noisy audio using a two-stage process. The ‘649 patent relates to a device-proximity/event-matching method using synchronized sensor triggers and audio comparison.

The ‘959 patent relates to a method, apparatus, and system for anonymous network communication through an ad hoc virtual domain. The patent has been asserted against several but recently against Staples, Autel Robotics, Alteryx, VOXX, Advance Local Media, Aptiv, ServiceNow, Moodys Analytics, and Vivian Health.

Unified Patents, the top requester of ex parte reexaminations in recent years, will likely challenge its validity. The patent is generally related to enhancing targeted advertising or directing users to similar content. Stratacor LLC has sued Alibaba Group Holding Limited.
