Better Browsing web browser patent invalidated

On February 12, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,838,736, owned and asserted by Better Browsing LLC. The '736 patent relates generally to a zoom feature for an internet browser and has been asserted against Samsung, Hewlett Packard, Lenovo, Opera Norway AS, Toshiba, Acer, Razer, and ASUSTeK.

World's Most Comprehensive Database for Unified Patent Court (UPC) cases now part of Unified's Portal

As the Unified Patent Court (UPC) has begun to hear cases, Unified's Portal now tracks and allows users to examine the dockets to receive real-time case information. Portal users can filter by Case Numbers, Patent Numbers, Actions, Respondents, Claimants, Representatives, Judges, and Filing Dates. It includes all public documents available and all docket metadata.

Currently Unified’s Portal contains 232 total cases, with 97 cases of Counterclaims for Revocation, 79 cases of Infringement Actions, 25 cases of Revocations, and the remaining 31 cases involving Appeals, Provisional Measures, or other requests. Portal continues to update the cases and case information on a daily basis, proving to be the most comprehensive database of patent litigation around the world.

Case numbers are linked to the UPC, a court composed of judges from all participating Member States of the European Union. Patent numbers are linked to Portal’s patent information page where users can find detailed information about the individual patent.

Magnetar Capital entity Togail Technologies 5G patent instituted

On February 7, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,791,502, owned by Togail Technologies Ltd., a Magnetar Capital entity. The ’502 patent relates to error-handling procedures for system information requests in communications. It has been asserted against 3GPP devices from companies including TCL Technology, Apple, Google, Motorola, and Samsung.

GenghisComm 4G/5G patent challenged

On February 9, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,200,227, owned by GenghisComm Holdings, LLC, an NPE. The ’227 patent relates to OFDM wireless communication networks. It has been asserted against many tech and automotive companies, including Continental Automotive, TCL Communication, and Toyota.

HyperX zero-touch networking patent invalidated

On February 12, 2024, the USPTO issued a notice of intent to issue an ex parte reexamination certificate in RE90/015,252, cancelling all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,522,756, owned and asserted by HyperX Networks, LLC. The ‘756 patent relates to zero-touch provisioning systems and methods, and had been asserted against Ciena.
