$2,000 for Safety Direct loss prevention patent prior art

A new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, was added seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 10,115,292, owned by Safety Direct, LLC, an NPE. The ‘292 patent generally relates to a device, where if the mobile device or important small item is removed beyond a user-defined distance, a visual and noise alarm will activate, thus immediately letting the owner and others know that a theft has occurred. The ‘292 patent has been asserted against Samsung, Apple, Alphabet, Zepp, and Tesla.

Dialect natural language patent challenged

On September 27, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,495,957, owned and asserted by Dialect, LLC, an NPE. The ‘957 patent relates to natural language human machine interactions using context information. The patent has been asserted against Amazon and Samsung

$2,000 awarded for Flick Intelligence information sharing patent prior art

Unified is pleased to announce PATROLL crowdsourcing contest winners, Ekta Aswal and Vibhor Dimri, who split a cash award of $2,000 for their prior art submissions on U.S. Patent 9,465,451, owned by Flick Intelligence, LLC, an NPE. The ‘451 patent generally relates to a computer program product for displaying additional information about a displayed point of interest. The patent had been asserted against Magic Leap, Google, Apple, and Niantic.

Empire IP entity, Fleet Connect, wireless patent challenged

On September 22, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,058,040, owned and asserted by Fleet Connect Solutions, LLC, an NPE and entity of Empire IP. The ‘040 patent generally relates to minimizing RF channel interference in a device where two RF standards operate in the same frequency bands. The patent is being asserted against devices that have the ability to communicate using LTE, 802.11, or Bluetooth. Companies asserted against include Penske Auto, Aptiv, USIC Locating Services, Rivian, and Peloton.

DynaIP entity, Silent Communication, telecom patent claim cancelled

On September 25, 2023, the USPTO issued a Notice of Intent to Issue Ex Parte Reexamination Certificate in RE90/015,109, cancelling the lone claim of U.S. Patent 8,229,409, owned by Silent Communication, LLC, an NPE and DynaIP entity. The ’409 patent relates to recovering calls after an erroneous disconnection and has been asserted against Adobe, Fuze, Lifesize, and Zoho. Unified filed the request for ex parte reexamination in August 2022.
