$2,000 awarded for 2BCom data transfer patent prior art

Unified is pleased to announce PATROLL crowdsourcing contest winners, Manikandan Mani, Dinesh Swamy, and Ekta Aswal, who split a cash prize of $2,000 for their prior art submissions on U.S. Patent 6,885,643, owned by 2BCom, LLC, an NPE and Markman Advisors entity. The ‘643 patent generally relates to data transfer via wireless communications. The patent has been asserted against Netgear, D-Link Systems, Walmart, and Honeywell.

We would also like to thank the dozens of other high-quality submissions that were made on this patent. The ongoing contests are open to anyone, and include tens of thousands of dollars in rewards available for helping the industry to challenge NPE patents of questionable validity by finding and submitting prior art in the contests. Tanit Ventures entity L2 Mobile Tech wireless patent challenged

On December 22, 2022, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,321,740, owned and asserted by L2 Mobile Technologies LLC, an NPE and entity of Tanit Ventures Inc. The ’740 patent is generally directed to Transmission Time Interval (TTI) bundling in user equipment of a wireless communication system. This reexamination was filed as part of Unified’s 3GPP SEP zone.

VideoLabs '794 video codec patent likely invalid

On December 19, 2022, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) instituted trial on all challenged claims in an IPR filed by Unified against U.S. Patent 8,605,794, owned and asserted by VL Collective IP LLC, a VideoLabs Inc. entity. The '794 patent is generally directed to synchronizing data segments and references MPEG1 and has been asserted against Starz Entertainment and Amazon. This IPR filing is part of Unified's ongoing efforts in its SEP Video Codec Zone.

IP Edge entity, Noblewood IP, settles with Unified

On December 19, 2022, the Board issued an order terminating IPR2022-01111 pursuant to a joint settlement request filed by Unified Patents and Noblewood IP LLC, an NPE and IP Edge entity. U.S. Patent 7,941,553 relates to responding to user requests for multimedia content with a metafile. This patent has been asserted twelve times this year, including against Wolters Kluwer, Viacom, and Everyday Health.
