$2,000 awarded for Guzik '220 RF Circuitry patent prior art

The patent is owned by Guzik Technical Enterprises, an NPE. The '220 patent generally relates to a method for low-frequency bypassing in broadband RF circuitry.

WTR Highlights Canon and Unified Brands Recent Success Against Over 50 Foreign Counterfeiters

On October 10, 2022, the World Trademark Review wrote an article that covers the recent conclusion of Canon and Unified Brands’ trademark infringement action against over 50 foreign online counterfeiters. “Canon’s win against more than 50 illicit online sellers illustrates the effectiveness of following the money in anti-counterfeiting suits and provides a checklist of behaviours to look for when building a case.”

Joao entity Caselas transactions patent held invalid

On October 17, 2022, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) issued a final written decision in Unified Patents, LLC v. Caselas, LLC holding all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,715,691 unpatentable. Owned by Caselas, LLC, a Raymond Anthony Joao entity, the '691 patent is generally directed to providing transaction history information including charge-back information.

Caselas has asserted the '691 patent against over 40 banks and merchant services companies, including First Citizens Bank, UBS Bank, First National Bank of Omaha, TruWest Credit Union, and Electronic Merchant Systems.

Pedersen '920 message distribution patent challenged

On October 14, 2022, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 6,965,920, owned and asserted by Peter Henrik Pedersen. The '920 patent is generally directed to the specification and management of how messages are distributed to recipients. The patent has been asserted against several companies including Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Zoho Corp., Salesforce, Oracle, Adobe, Intuit, Wix.com, Zendesk, and others.
