$2,000 for M4siz prior art

On June 30, 2022, a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, was added seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 6,526,402. The patent is owned by M4siz, LTD, an NPE. The '402 patent generally relates to a searching procedure, particularly for searching on the Internet, using a search engine associated with a database where the user submits a request string comprising a locator (or URL) for the search engine and a search string including at least one search term. This patent has been asserted against most major retailers such as Macy’s, Walmart, Wayfair, Sears, Petsmart, HEB, Kroger, Pottery Barn, and Aldi.

VideoLabs '790 patent challenged

On June 28, 2022, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,233,790. The patent is owned and asserted by VideoLabs Inc., an NPE. The '790 patent is directed to video-on-demand systems that allow content providers to distribute the correct format of digital content to different devices. It has been asserted against Netflix. Robocast patent challenged

On June 30, 2022, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 8,965,932, owned and asserted by Robocast Inc., an NPE. The ‘932 patent is generally directed to the automatic delivery and presentation of web content. It has been asserted against Netflix, YouTube, and Google.

Voice Tech's PTAB rehearing request denied

On June 28, 2022, Voice Tech Corporation’s request for rehearing of IPR2020-01018 was denied by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). The IPR was filed against U.S. 10,491,679 on June 5, 2020, was instituted on December 14, 2020, and received a final written decision holding all claims invalid on December 13, 2021. The ’679 patent relates to voice-activated computing. The patent is currently asserted against Mycroft AI Inc. for using open source, voice-related technologies. This denial comes after the Board previously rejected Voice Tech's precedential opinion panel (POP) request.

IP Investments Group entity DigiMedia Tech patent challenged

On June 27, 2022, Unified Patents filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 6,473,532, owned and asserted by DigiMedia Tech LLC, an NPE and an IP Investments Group entity. The ‘532 patent relates generally to processing and encoding of video images for later compression by standard compression techniques. This patent has been asserted against ViacomCBS, Lenovo, and Panasonic.
