$2,000 for D3D Technologies prior art

On August 30, 2021, Unified Patents added a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 10,795,457. The patent is owned by D3D Technologies, an NPE. The '457 patent generally relates to an interactive 3D cursor facilitates selection and manipulation of a three-dimensional volume from any three-dimensional image. The ‘457 patent has been asserted against Microsoft.

Federal Circuit Affirms Unified Patents’ Successful IPR Against Ortiz & Associates Consulting

On August 31, 2021, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit summarily affirmed the PTAB’s ruling that all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,971,914, are unpatentable in a summary affirmance under Rule 36, effectively ending the longstanding assertion of those claims. The ‘914 patent, directed to controlling a multimedia video device to play video data through the operation of a wireless device, has been asserted against Google and RokuSee Ortiz & Associates Consulting, LLC. v. Unified Patents, LLC, No. 2021-1085 (Fed. Cir. August 31, 2021) (Rule 36 Affirmance). The case was argued by in-house counsel Alyssa Holtslander and Angela Oliver from Haynes and Boone. Unified was also represented by in-house counsel Roshan Mansinghani and Jonathan Stroud as well as Raghav Bajaj, Debbie McComas, David O’Dell, and David McCombs at Haynes and Boone.

$2,500 for Defenders of the American Dream prior art

On August 27, 2021, Unified Patents added a new PATROLL contest, with a $2,500 cash prize, seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 8,621,578. The patent is owned by the Defenders of the American Dream, LLC, an NPE. Various demand letters to owners of websites that simply use Captcha as a verification method have been sent and the ‘578 patent has been asserted against Best Buy, Fandango, AEG, and Ticket Master.

$5,000 Awarded for SaveItSafe prior art

Unified is pleased to announce PATROLL crowdsourcing contest winner, Erica Ghironi, who received a cash prize of $5,000 for her prior art submission for U.S. Patent 8,929,552. The patent owner is SaveItSafe, LLC, an NPE. The '552 patent relates to securement of electronic information and cryptographic keys. SaveItSafe asserted the '552 patent against Oracle and Ultra Electronics Holdings in the Western District of Texas. However, the prior owner, No Magic, Inc., previously asserted the patent against Futurex, Atos IT Solutions and Services, SafeNet, Townsend Security, and Thales e-Security in 2015 through 2017.
