Uniloc patent challenged as likely invalid

On May 28, 2019, Unified, represented by Ropes & Gray, filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 6,519,005, owned and asserted by Uniloc 2017 LLC, a Uniloc affiliate and well-known NPE.  The ‘005 patent, directed to a method for performing motion estimation, a process used in digital video compression, has been asserted against numerous streaming and multimedia companies, including AmazonAmerican Broadcasting Company (ABC)BitmovinGoogleHuluNetflixRokuSling TV, and Vudu.

Kojicast patent challenged as likely invalid

On May 24, 2019, Unified, represented by Haynes and Boone, filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 9,749,380, owned and asserted by Kojicast, LLC, an NPE. The ‘380 patent, directed to streaming multimedia content from a server to a media playing device through operation of a portable device such as a tablet or smartphone, has been asserted against Dailymotion.

Inventergy LBS patent challenged as likely invalid

On May 24, 2019, Unified, represented by Finnegan Henderson, filed an IPR against U.S. Patent No. 9,781,558, owned by Inventergy LBS, LLC.  The ‘558 patent, related to monitoring and communicating tracking devices, has been asserted against tracking device vendors such as Tracking the World, Inc., Geofroce, Inc., and USGlobalSat, Inc.
