Blackbird Techs. patent challenged as likely invalid

On October 24, 2017, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 9,424,848 owned and asserted by Blackbird Technologies, LLC, a well-known NPE. The '848 patent, directed to a method for secure transactions utilizing physically separated computers, has been asserted in district litigation against such companies as Capital One and BMO Harris Bank.

Uniloc patent challenged as likely invalid

On October 24, 2017, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 6,110,228 owned and asserted by Uniloc Luxembourg, S.A., a well-known NPE. The '228 patent, directed to a method and apparatus for software maintenance at remote nodes, has been asserted in fifteen district court cases since January 2017, ten of which remain pending. Defendants include such companies as Big Fish Games, Riot Games, Ubisoft, Square Enix, Box, Nexon America.

Sound View patent challenged as likely invalid

On October 20, 2017, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 6,125,371 owned and asserted by Sound View Innovations, LLC an NPE. The '371 patent, directed to a system and method for aging versions of data in a main memory database, has been asserted in district court litigation against such companies as Facebook, Fidelity Investments, and Hulu.

Universal Secure Registry patent challenged as likely invalid

On October 16, 2017, Unified, represented by Erise IP, filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 8,577,813 owned and asserted by Universal Secure Registry LLC, an NPE. The '813 patent, directed to a device onto which a user may store information regarding multiple financial accounts, has been asserted in district court litigation against such companies as Apple and Visa.

Blue Sky patent challenged as likely invalid

On October 13, 2017, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 8,265,691 owned and asserted by Blue Sky Networks, LLC, a subsidiary of Monument Patent Holdings (aka Dominion Harbor), a well-known NPE. The '691 patent, directed to the operation of wireless handsets within short-range areas of a wireless network, has been asserted in seven district court cases in 2017 against such companies as Toyota, MediaTek, Lenovo, BLU Products, and Best Buy.
