IPVal entity, 5G IP Holdings, 5G patent found invalid

On September 5, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,813,163, owned and asserted by 5G IP Holdings LLC, an NPE and IP Valuation Partners, LLC entity. The '163 patent generally relates to discontinuous reception (DRX) and utilizing slots within subframes to adapt DRX to function within the 5G frame structure. The patent is currently being asserted against Apple and had previously been asserted against Samsung.

IP Investments entity, Distributed Media, media streaming patent found invalid

On September 5, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling the challenged claims (1-19 and 21) of U.S. Patent 7,739,714, owned and asserted by Distributed Media Solutions, an NPE and entity of IP Investments Group. The ‘714 patent relates to methods and systems for encoding digital multimedia data for transmission over a network. The patent has been asserted against AMC Networks, CuriosityStream, and Fenix International.

Magnetar Capital entity Togail Technologies 5G patent found invalid

On August 12, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,791,502, owned by Togail Technologies Ltd., a Magnetar Capital entity. The ’502 patent relates to error-handling procedures for system information requests in communications. It had been asserted against 3GPP devices from companies including TCL Technology, Apple, Google, Motorola, and Samsung.

Magnetar/Atlantic IP entity, Croga Innovations, firewall patent challenged

On August 28, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,601,780, owned by Croga Innovations, Ltd., an entity of Atlantic IP Services Limited. The '780 patent relates to a networked computer system that employs a combination of internal and external firewall mechanisms, along with virtualization techniques, to isolate secure LANs from untrusted internet sources. The patent has been asserted against IBM, Cisco, Fortinet, and Amazon.

NexGen semiconductor controller patent found invalid

On August 28, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of challenged claims 1, 5-7, and 13 of U.S. Patent 8,278,855 owned and asserted by NexGen Control Systems, LLC, an NPE. The '855 patent generally relates to control systems for electric motors. The patent was asserted against Infineon and NXP.
