Fortress entity, Entropic Communications, broadband patent challenged

On September 11, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,594,249, owned and asserted by Entropic Communications, an NPE and Fortress IP subsidiary. The '249 patent generally relates to communication between devices in a local area network utilizing coaxial wiring. The patent is currently being asserted against DirecTV / AT&T, Cox, Comcast, and Dish Network.

Acacia entity, Monarch, networking patent challenged

On September 8, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,451,845, owned and asserted by Monarch Networking Solutions, LLC, an Acacia Research Corp. entity.  The ‘845 patent relates to converting data packets between the IPv4 and IPv6 domains. It has been asserted against Cisco and Juniper Networks.

MDSP Technologies navigation patent challenged

On September 11, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,239,376, owned and asserted by MDSP Technologies LLC.  The ‘376 patent relates to determining the position and acceleration of a mobile device using doppler aided inertial navigation. It has been asserted against Google, Apple, Samsung, Garmin, and TomTom.

DynaIP entity, Cloud Systems HoldCo IP, IoT patent reexam granted

On September 8, 2023, less than six weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding a substantial new question of patentability on all of the claims of U.S. Patent 8,909,779, owned and asserted by Cloud Systems HoldCo IP, LLC, an NPE and DynaIP entity.  The ’779 patent relates to methods for controlling devices in an environment. It is currently being asserted against CPI Security Systems, Google, and Ring, and it has been asserted against others.

Atlantic IP entity, Foras Technologies, parallel processors patents challenged

On September 1, 2023, Unified Patents filed ex parte reexamination proceedings against three separate patents owned and asserted by Foras Technologies, Ltd., an NPE and entity of Atlantic IP Services Limited. The challenged patents relate to lockstep processor technology where two processors are paired together, and the two processors perform exactly the same-operations and the results-are compared.(e.g., with an XOR gate). The patents have been asserted against various automobile manufacturers. U.S. Patent 7,502,958 has been asserted against Toyota, Kia, BMW, Nissan, and Volkswagen. U.S. Patent 7,624,302 has been asserted against Nissan and ZF Friedrichshafen AG. U.S. Patent 7,627,781 has been asserted against Toyota and Nissan.
