VDPP video codec patent reexam granted

On July 26, 2023, less than two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding a substantial new question of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,699,444, owned and asserted by VDPP LLC, an NPE. The '444 patent generally relates to processing image frames from a video stream and generating bridge frames for motion smoothing. The patent has been asserted against Microsoft, Vizio, Lenovo, Roku, Philips, Panasonic, Sharp, and others.

DynaIP entity, Cloud Systems HoldCo IP, IoT patent challenged

On July 31, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,909,779, owned and asserted by Cloud Systems HoldCo IP, LLC, an NPE and DynaIP entity.  The ’779 patent relates to methods for controlling devices in an environment. It is currently being asserted against Bosch Security Systems, Guardian Protection Services, Google, and Ring, and it has been asserted against others.

Adnexus advertising patent challenged

On July 27, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,719,101, owned and asserted by Adnexus, Inc., an NPE. The ‘101 patent relates to on-line advertising and has been asserted against Amazon, Meta Platforms, LinkedIn, Google, and eBay.

DynaIP entity Street Spirit IP ID verification patent reexam instituted

On July 17, 2023, just five weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the USPTO granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,282,090, owned and asserted by Street Spirit IP LLC, an NPE and entity of Dynamic IP Deals. The ’090 patent generally relates to identity verification in a social network using ratings. The ’090 patent is currently being asserted against Meta Platforms, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

SoundStreak Texas adaptive streaming patent found invalid in reexam

On July 14, 2023, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of all claims of U.S. Patent 10,726,822, owned and asserted by SoundStreak Texas LLC, an NPE and entity of Quest Patent Research Corporation. The ’822 patent is directed to simultaneously establishing high- and low- quality data formats for streaming and storing digital content during a live event. The patent was asserted against Fujifilm Holdings, Delair SAS, Flyability S.A., Parrot S.A., Drone Volt, S.A., EHang Holdings Limited, Yamaha, Olympus, Nikon, Sony, and Panasonic.
