Hilco Global entity Bell Semiconductor integrated circuit patent challenged

On December 30, 2022, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,007,259, owned and asserted by Bell Semiconductor LLC, an NPE and entity of Hilco Global. The ‘259 patent generally relates to methods for patterning dummy metal to achieve planarity for chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) of integrated circuits. The patent has been asserted in over 25 litigations against semiconductor companies like NXP, AMD, Micron, Qualcomm, Infineon, Western Digital, Lattice Semiconductor, and others.

Dolby & Access Advance codec patent challenged in EPO

On December 30, 2022, Unified filed an opposition proceeding against EP 3767950, owned by Dolby International AB. EP ‘950 is generally directed to tracking reference pictures for use in digital image decoding using a cycle parameter and is related to patents that have been identified as essential to the Access Advance Patent Pool. This filing is a part of Unified’s ongoing efforts in its SEP Video Codec Zone.

Tanit Ventures entity L2 Mobile Tech wireless patent challenged

On December 22, 2022, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,321,740, owned and asserted by L2 Mobile Technologies LLC, an NPE and entity of Tanit Ventures Inc. The ’740 patent is generally directed to Transmission Time Interval (TTI) bundling in user equipment of a wireless communication system. This reexamination was filed as part of Unified’s 3GPP SEP zone.

VideoLabs '794 video codec patent likely invalid

On December 19, 2022, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) instituted trial on all challenged claims in an IPR filed by Unified against U.S. Patent 8,605,794, owned and asserted by VL Collective IP LLC, a VideoLabs Inc. entity. The '794 patent is generally directed to synchronizing data segments and references MPEG1 and has been asserted against Starz Entertainment and Amazon. This IPR filing is part of Unified's ongoing efforts in its SEP Video Codec Zone.

IP Edge entity, Noblewood IP, settles with Unified

On December 19, 2022, the Board issued an order terminating IPR2022-01111 pursuant to a joint settlement request filed by Unified Patents and Noblewood IP LLC, an NPE and IP Edge entity. U.S. Patent 7,941,553 relates to responding to user requests for multimedia content with a metafile. This patent has been asserted twelve times this year, including against Wolters Kluwer, Viacom, and Everyday Health.
