On October 6, 2017, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 9,454,748 owned and asserted by Fall Line Patents, LLC, an NPE. The '748 patent, directed to collecting data from a remote computing device by delivering a questionnaire and transmitting responses to a server via a network, has been asserted in five district court cases in in 2017, four of which are currently pending against Cinemark, American Airlines, Uber and Choice Hotels International.
