Beacon Navigation patent challenged as likely invalid

On May 4, 2018, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 6,178,380 owned and asserted by Beacon Navigation, GmbH, a well-known NPE. The '380 patent claims a "vehicle location display of a navigation system" that provides a navigation display that includes a first map with a first scale and a second map with a different scale. This patent has been asserted in 33 district court litigations against various automotive companies such as Toyota, Suzuki, Volvo, Nissan, Daimler AG, Hyundai, and Honda

Universal Secure Registry patent determined to be likely invalid

On May 3, 2018, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) instituted trial on all challenged claims in an IPR filed by Unified against U.S. Patent 8,577,813 owned and asserted by Universal Secure Registry, LLC, a known NPE. The '813 patent, generally directed to authenticating a user using biometric and secret information provided to a user device, has been asserted against Apple and Visa

Hublink (Dominion Harbor) patent looks invalid

Unified is pleased to announce the PATROLL crowdsourcing contest winner, Raman Deep Singh, who received a cash prize of $2000 for his prior art submission for U.S. Patent 7,239,338, owned by Hublink, LLC, a Dominion Harbor subsidiary and well-known NPE.  The '338 patent, directed towards a video conferencing system, has been asserted against numerous companies in district court litigation.
