Quest entity Taasera cyber security patent challenge instituted

On April 19, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,673,137, owned by Taasera Licensing LLC, an NPE and a Quest Patent Research Corporation entity.  The ‘137 patent relates to methods of computer security using program validation. The patent has been asserted against several entities including Fortinet, Trellix, Palo Alto Networks, Trend Micro, Check Point, and CrowdStrike.

Portsmouth Network Corp networking patent challenge instituted

On April 19, 2024, less than six weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,014,394, owned by Portsmouth Network Corporation, an NPE. The '394 patent is generally directed to methods and systems for delivering multicast traffic over communication networks. It has been asserted against Cisco and Juniper Networks.

On April 19, 2024, less than two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,586,871, owned by OptiMorphix, Inc. The ‘871 patent relates to providing services in a data communications system. It has been asserted against Amazon, Broadcom, Cisco, F5, Google, Microsoft, Oracle, and VMware.

Emerging Automotive e-Keys patent challenge instituted

On April 15, 2024, less than one month after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,738,659, owned and asserted by Emerging Automotive LLC. The ‘659 patent generally relates to systems and methods for generating and sharing electronic keys (e-Keys) with users and cloud-based processing systems making e-Keys sharable for enabling shared use of a vehicle. It has been asserted against Toyota and Kia.

On April 11, 2024, six weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,406,994, owned and asserted by InfoGation Corporation, an NPE. The '994 patent is generally directed to displaying maps on GPS receivers. It has been asserted against Toyota, Honda, BMW, and Changan Ford Automobile Company.
